Adam
Text-to-CAD: describe a part in words, get a printable 3D model.
About
Adam is a text-to-CAD tool from Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch that turns plain-language descriptions into parametric 3D CAD models. Its open-source core (CADAM, GPL-3.0) runs in the browser on OpenSCAD, and the team is building a 'Cursor for CAD' copilot that edits parts inside Onshape. It went viral with makers for how fast it produces printable models, though complex engineering-grade parts still need a human CAD hand.
What it can do
- Text-to-CAD generation
- Parametric slider editing
- Onshape copilot extension
- STL export for 3D printing
- Open-source CADAM core (GPL-3.0)
Setup
- Go to adam.new and create an account.
- Describe the part you want in plain language.
- Refine dimensions with the parametric sliders.
- Export the model as STL for 3D printing.
- For the Onshape copilot, install the Adam extension from the Onshape App Store.
Prerequisites
A web browser; an Onshape account for the copilot extension.
