Apex Security
AI usage visibility and policy enforcement platform; acquired by Tenable in 2025.
About
Apex Security was founded in 2023 by Matan Derman (CEO) and Tomer Avni (CPO), who met as officers in Israel's Unit 8200. The company emerged from stealth with a $7M seed round co-led by Sequoia Capital and Index Ventures, with angel backing from OpenAI's Sam Altman and Hugging Face's Clem Delangue. Its platform gave security teams visibility into how AI was being used across the organization by developers and employees, letting them define acceptable AI use, enforce security policies, detect violations, and respond to AI-specific attacks.
In June 2025 Tenable acquired Apex Security for $47.8M, per Tenable's 2025 10-K, to fold AI usage governance, policy enforcement, and exposure control into the Tenable One exposure management platform. The deal closed in Q2 2025 and Tenable began delivering integrated capabilities in the second half of the year. Treat this as a historical entry: the standalone Apex product is gone, and the current path to its technology is Tenable One's AI-aware exposure management.
