Biome
Rust toolchain that replaces ESLint and Prettier with one fast binary.
About
Biome is a unified linter and formatter for JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, TSX, JSON, and CSS, written in Rust. It started as the Rome project and was reborn as Biome in 2023 after the original stalled. Version 2 shipped in 2025 with a fuller TypeScript-aware rule set. One binary and one optional biome.json replace ESLint, Prettier, and their plugin stacks, with checks running in milliseconds rather than seconds.
Independent benchmarks in 2026 put Biome around 9x faster than ESLint 9 plus Prettier 3 on a 13,000-line sample, with three installed packages instead of over a hundred. The trade-off is rule coverage: teams relying on niche ESLint plugins for testing libraries, Storybook, or complex project-wide type-aware rules may find gaps and should check Biome's unsupported-rules list before migrating.
