Chatwoot

The open-source omnichannel inbox with an AI copilot.

About

Chatwoot is the open-source answer to the support inbox: website chat, email, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, SMS, and more in one team inbox, self-hostable with Docker or available as managed cloud. Its AI layer, Captain, answers first-response questions from the help center, drafts and translates replies for agents, and flags content gaps where the knowledge base has no answer.

The trade is control for convenience. Self-hosting keeps conversation data in your own infrastructure and avoids per-resolution billing surprises, but you own the operations — sizing, updates, and uptime are yours. The GitHub repo sits near 37,600 stars, which reflects real adoption, though reviewers note the AI capability trails the commercial leaders. Cloud plans run $0–$99 per agent per month, with AI credits metered on top.
