Cody
Sourcegraph's enterprise AI coding assistant — repo-wide context from the code search company.
Retired
Cody appears to be discontinued or shut down — Free/Pro/Enterprise Starter discontinued Jul 2025; Enterprise-only for existing customers This page is kept as an archive record and is excluded from search engines.
About
Cody is Sourcegraph's AI coding assistant, built on top of the company's code search platform. Its differentiator was always context: chat, autocompletions, and edits grounded in search across your entire codebase and all your repositories, not just open files. It shipped for VS Code, the JetBrains family, an experimental Visual Studio client, the Sourcegraph web app, and a CLI.
The honest picture, and it matters: Sourcegraph discontinued Cody Free, Cody Pro, and Enterprise Starter on July 23, 2025, and pointed individual developers to Amp — which then split into a separate company in December 2025. The public sourcegraph/cody repository now returns 404 (only a public snapshot remains). Cody still exists and is actively developed, but only as Cody Enterprise bundled with a Sourcegraph enterprise contract. For everyone else, it is effectively unavailable. Include it in your evaluation only if your org already pays for Sourcegraph.
What it can do
- Chat, completions, and edits with whole-codebase context
- Repository-wide context via Sourcegraph's search API
- VS Code, JetBrains, web, and CLI clients
- Custom prompts for repeatable refactor and review tasks
- Context filters to exclude repos from search
Setup
Cody Enterprise is provisioned through a Sourcegraph enterprise contract — there is no self-serve signup. Your admin enables it and you install the IDE extension or use the web app.
Prerequisites
A Sourcegraph Enterprise contract that includes Cody. Not available to individuals or small teams.
