Confluent

Kafka-native data streaming platform with Flink and AI agent context built in.

About

Confluent is the company founded by the original creators of Apache Kafka, offering a managed data streaming platform that combines Kafka, Flink stream processing, schema governance and, increasingly, AI infrastructure. Tableflow materializes Kafka topics as Iceberg or Delta Lake tables automatically, so operational event data lands in the lakehouse without custom pipelines. Confluent Intelligence adds a real-time context engine for AI agents with MCP integration, a Flink-based streaming agent framework, and built-in ML functions such as sentiment analysis, anomaly detection and forecasting directly in Flink SQL.

For AI teams this matters because agents need fresh context, not stale batch exports: Confluent positions streaming as the way to push customer actions, transactions and telemetry into agent reasoning with millisecond latency. The company went public in 2021 and remains the reference managed Kafka vendor, competing with Redpanda, Aiven and cloud-native streaming services.

What it can do

  • Managed Apache Kafka with elastic scaling and exactly-once semantics
  • Confluent Cloud for Flink: stream processing in SQL with built-in AI/ML functions
  • Tableflow: Kafka topics as Iceberg/Delta Lake tables, no pipelines
  • Confluent Intelligence: MCP-based real-time context engine and streaming agents
