Fabric

Open-source CLI of composable AI patterns — pipe anything through expert prompts.

Visit official site →

About

Fabric is an open-source framework for augmenting humans with AI, built around hundreds of composable 'patterns' — curated, versioned prompts for tasks like summarizing, extracting claims, rating content, or writing. It's a Go CLI: you pipe text in (fabric -p summarize < article.txt) and get structured AI output back.

Patterns are plain markdown you can read, fork and customize, and there's a REST API server mode for wiring Fabric into other tools. It works with any model backend you configure. MIT licensed, huge community pattern library.

What it can do

  • Hundreds of composable AI patterns
  • Unix-pipe friendly CLI
  • Custom patterns in plain markdown
  • REST API server mode
  • Works with any configured model

Setup

  1. Install with brew install fabric-ai or go install github.com/danielmiessler/fabric/cmd/fabric@latest.
  2. Run fabric --setup to configure your model provider and API key.
  3. Try it: echo "long text" | fabric -p summarize.
  4. Browse and install community patterns with fabric -u.

Prerequisites
