Firefly
One inventory for every cloud asset, drift, and IaC file, with AI remediation.
About
Firefly is a cloud infrastructure automation platform founded in 2021 (firefly.ai) that keeps a continuous inventory of assets across multi-cloud, Kubernetes, and SaaS environments and classifies every resource as codified, unmanaged, or drifted. From that inventory it generates IaC (Terraform, Pulumi, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, or OCI-native modules) directly from live infrastructure, enforces 600+ built-in compliance and security policies, and converts alerts into pull requests or CLI actions, which the vendor calls AI-native autonomous remediation. It now covers OCI alongside AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
Backers include SoftBank, Hanaco, and Vertex Ventures; the company was named a 2024 Gartner Cool Vendor in Platform Engineering and lists Aqua Security, AppsFlyer, and Comtech as customers (Comtech reports saving over $180K a year after Firefly flagged orphaned EBS volumes). I have not hands-on tested the autonomous remediation, so treat the agent-driven fixes as provider-claimed.
What it can do
- Unified multi-cloud, Kubernetes, and SaaS asset inventory
- Codified / unmanaged / drifted classification
- IaC generation from live infrastructure (Terraform, Pulumi, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, OCI)
- AI-assisted remediation via pull requests and CLI actions
- 600+ built-in compliance and security policies
- Drift detection with Terraform Cloud run-task integration
- Historical asset records for disaster recovery
- IaC orchestration pipelines with policy and cost guardrails
Setup
- Sign up at firefly.ai and connect your cloud accounts (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI), Kubernetes clusters, and SaaS tools.
- Let Firefly discover and classify assets as codified, unmanaged, or drifted.
- Generate IaC from unmanaged or drifted resources with the codify flow.
- Enable policies, drift detection, and AI-assisted remediation via pull requests or your CI/CD pipeline.
Prerequisites
Read-only cloud account access for discovery; Terraform/OpenTofu or another IaC workflow to codify into.

Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (TIER metrics, metrics-v1). Evidence: founded 2021; backed by SoftBank, Hanaco, Vertex Ventures; 2024 Gartner Cool Vendor in Platform Engineering; named customers (Aqua Security, AppsFlyer, Comtech) with a quantified Comtech case study ($180K/yr waste found). Strengths: clear codified/drifted/unmanaged model, real customer proof, strong policy library. Docked for: (1) autonomous-remediation and AI claims are provider-stated, untested; (2) pricing not published, adoption scale beyond named customers unclear. License: proprietary.
