gen.nvim
Generate and refactor text in Neovim using local LLMs.
About
gen.nvim is a Neovim plugin by David Kunz that generates text using large language models with customizable prompts. It connects to a local Ollama instance, letting developers send selections to models like Llama or Mistral for explanation, refactoring, fixing, and other prompt-driven tasks without leaving the editor.
Prompts are fully customizable, results stream into floating or split windows, and accepted output can replace the original selection. Because it targets local models, code never leaves the machine. It requires Ollama with an appropriate model and curl, and installs through any Neovim plugin manager such as lazy.nvim.
What it can do
- Customizable LLM prompts on selections
- Local Ollama-backed generation
- Streaming output with accept-to-replace
- Floating, split, or horizontal layouts
