GO Feature Flag
Self-hosted, OpenFeature-native feature flags in Go — free at any scale, no database, no bill.
About
GO Feature Flag (GOFF) is a 100% open-source (MIT) feature-flag solution by Thomas Poignant. You describe flags in a configuration file served from HTTP, S3, GCS, GitHub, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, or plain files, and evaluate them either in-process via the embedded Go module or through a stateless relay proxy that any language can reach via the OpenFeature SDKs — 16 languages supported.
Beyond the basics it ships targeting rules, progressive and scheduled rollouts, A/B experimentation, data exporters (S3, BigQuery, Kafka, OpenTelemetry, webhooks), and change notifiers (Slack, Discord, Teams). Current release is v1.56.0 and the project is actively maintained. The maintainer sits on the OpenFeature Governance Committee (2026-2028 term). The trade-off is operational: it is self-hosted only, there is no managed cloud, so you run the relay proxy and own uptime yourself.
What it can do
- Flag evaluation via OpenFeature SDKs in 16 languages
- In-process (WASM module) or relay-proxy evaluation
- Targeting rules, progressive and scheduled rollouts
- A/B experimentation with data exporters (S3, BigQuery, Kafka, OTel)
- Change notifiers: Slack, Discord, Teams, webhooks
- Flag sources: file, HTTP, S3/GCS/Azure, GitHub/GitLab, K8s, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis
- No database required; no per-seat or per-user billing
Setup
Define flags in a YAML config, point a retriever at it (file, S3, GitHub, K8s), and run the relay proxy or embed the Go module.
Prerequisites
Infrastructure to host the relay proxy (single Go binary; Helm and Lambda options documented).

Trust score — 8/10
Scored 8/10 (VERIFIED tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: MIT-licensed, v1.56.0, repo stars verified via GitHub API, actively maintained with responsive maintainer; production deployments documented in independent write-ups; maintainer elected to the OpenFeature Governance Committee 2026-2028. Strengths: fully open with no paid tier or usage billing, OpenFeature-native so evaluation code is portable, no database to run, rich exporter/notifier surface for a self-hosted tool. Docked for: (1) self-hosted only — you own uptime and upgrades; (2) single-maintainer core with community contributors; (3) no managed UX polish compared to SaaS rivals. License: MIT (fully open).
