Gremlin

Chaos engineering pioneer, now with agentic AI that finds and fixes reliability risks.

About

Gremlin is the chaos engineering platform founded by Kolton Andrus, who ran uptime for Amazon's retail site and then built Netflix's second-generation fault-injection tooling after Chaos Monkey. It was the first hosted chaos engineering service: controlled experiments inject latency, kill pods, and exhaust resources with blast-radius controls, so teams find weaknesses before users do, backed by reliability scores and executive reporting.

On October 7, 2026, Gremlin made Foresight AI generally available: four specialized agents (Analyst, Tester, Operator, Technical Program Manager) that hunt reliability risks proactively, propose fixes as configuration patches or IaC changes, and re-run the originating experiment to prove the fix worked, with human sign-off at key steps. Recommendations are grounded in the vendor's Failure Atlas, a decade of observed cause-and-effect data from millions of experiments. This is very fresh, so real-world Foresight results are not yet independently documented.

What it can do

  • Fault injection: latency, pod kills, resource exhaustion, and more
  • Scenario library of recommended real-world failure conditions
  • Blast-radius controls with automatic halt and rollback
  • Foresight AI: Analyst, Tester, Operator, and TPM agents
  • Proactive reliability risk detection before incidents
  • Guided remediation as config patches or IaC changes
  • Continuous validation by re-running originating tests
  • Reliability scores and executive reporting

Setup

  1. Sign up at gremlin.com and install the Gremlin agent on your hosts, containers, or Kubernetes clusters.
  2. Define experiments from the scenario library or build your own with blast-radius controls.
  3. Run experiments on a schedule and track reliability scores.
  4. Enable Foresight AI to get proactive risk findings and guided remediations.

Prerequisites

Hosts, containers, or Kubernetes clusters where you can install the Gremlin agent.

Trust score — 8/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 8/10 (TIER verified, metrics-v1). Evidence: founded by Kolton Andrus (ex-Amazon, ex-Netflix Chaos Monkey lineage); first hosted chaos engineering service; Foresight AI GA Oct 7, 2026 with four-agent architecture covered by The Register and PR Newswire; Failure Atlas grounded in a decade of experiment data. Strengths: category pioneer with deep credibility, proactive rather than reactive AI angle. Docked for: (1) Foresight AI is days old, no independent results yet; (2) enterprise pricing not public. License: proprietary.
