Hume Octave
LLM-based text-to-speech with acting instructions and emotion control.
About
Hume Octave is a speech-language model built for text-to-speech, pitched by Hume AI as the first LLM designed specifically for voice synthesis rather than a TTS bolt-on. It reads text with contextual awareness, adjusting tone, rhythm, and cadence to match meaning, and accepts natural-language acting instructions so a line can be delivered with sarcasm, urgency, or a whisper without retraining.
The original Octave launched in February 2025 with a prompt-based voice designer and a Creator Studio for long-form audio. Octave 2 followed in October 2025 as a multilingual second generation covering 11 languages with sub-200ms latency, multi-speaker conversation, and planned voice conversion and phoneme-level editing. Hume positions the model for audiobooks, virtual assistants, gaming, and voice agents.
