Edits is Meta's standalone video editing app, announced January 2025 and launched globally April 22, 2025 — timed to the uncertainty around ByteDance's CapCut in the US. It pulled roughly 7.1 million downloads in its first week, debuting at number one on the US iPhone App Store.
The app offers AI-powered animation from static images, precision cutouts with object tracking, green screen, a high-quality in-app camera (up to 10 minutes of capture), watermark-free exports, and built-in Reels performance analytics. In 2026 Meta added an AI analytics assistant that interprets account data and suggests content changes. Limitation: it is unapologetically Instagram-centric — publishing and analytics revolve around Reels — and it still trails CapCut's template ecosystem and multi-year head start.
