lazydocker
A terminal UI for Docker and Docker Compose where every command is one keypress away.
About
lazydocker is a terminal UI for Docker and Docker Compose by Jesse Duffield (also the author of lazygit), written in Go with the gocui library. Its premise is simple: memorizing docker commands is hard, and tracking containers across terminal windows is near impossible, so it puts everything in one interactive window. You get container and service state at a glance, log viewing, ASCII graphs of container metrics (customizable to nearly any metric), one-keypress restart/remove/rebuild, attaching to containers, exec shells, image layer inspection, and pruning of containers, images, and volumes that hog disk space.
Mouse support works throughout, custom commands can be added, and it can even run inside Docker itself by mounting the Docker socket. Note the maintenance reality: the repo's most recent push was April 2026, roughly six months before this writing, so the cadence is slower than its sibling lazygit. The metrics graphs are provider-described rather than independently benchmarked. Free and MIT-licensed.
What it can do
- Unified view of Docker and Docker Compose environments
- Container log viewing with follow
- Customizable ASCII metrics graphs per container
- One-keypress restart, stop, remove, rebuild, attach, exec
- Image ancestor-layer inspection
- Prune containers, images, and volumes
- Custom user-defined commands
- Full mouse support for clicking and scrolling
- Runs standalone or inside Docker via socket mount
- Config file for keybindings and behavior
Setup
Install via Homebrew (brew install lazydocker or the jesseduffield/lazydocker tap for fresher builds), go install github.com/jesseduffield/lazydocker@latest, Chocolatey/Scoop on Windows, or a release binary. Run lazydocker in your terminal (many users alias it to ld). Requires Docker 29.0.0+ (API 1.24+) on the host. Configure via ~/.config/lazydocker/config.yml.
Prerequisites
Docker Engine 29.0.0+ (API >= 1.24) installed and running; a terminal with mouse support for clicking.
Use cases
Works with
Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: ~53.1k GitHub stars; independent reviews confirm the Docker/Compose TUI, log viewing, customizable ASCII metric graphs, one-keypress container actions, image layer inspection, and pruning. Strengths: huge adoption, genuinely eliminates docker-command memorization, mature and stable feature set. Docked for: (1) maintenance cadence has slowed — last push April 2026, roughly six months before this writing; (2) Docker API drift can cause compatibility issues between releases; (3) the metrics graphs are provider-described with no independent benchmarks.
