MCP Everything Server

Official MCP reference/test server exercising every MCP protocol feature.

Visit official site →

About

The official reference test server that exercises the full MCP protocol: prompts, resources, tools, sampling, roots, logging, and more. It exists so client developers can verify their implementations against every feature — not for production use.

It is the canonical way to smoke-test an MCP client: point the client at everything and confirm each capability negotiates correctly.

What it can do

  • Exercises all MCP primitives: tools, resources, prompts
  • Sampling, roots, and logging coverage
  • Both TypeScript and Python implementations
  • The canonical client conformance test

Setup

  1. Install Node.js 18+ (or Python for the Python variant).
  2. Add to your MCP client config: command npx, args ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-everything"].
  3. Use the MCP Inspector to walk through each feature.

Prerequisites

An MCP-compatible client; Node.js 18+ or Python 3.10+.

Trust score — 9/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 9/10 (verified tier). Official reference implementation, ~91k monorepo stars, actively maintained. Docked for the mixed license state (MIT→Apache-2.0 transition). Explicitly a dev/test tool rather than production infrastructure — judged on that basis, it does exactly what it claims.
