Neo4j
The graph database for connected data, now with native vector search and GraphRAG.
About
Neo4j is the market-leading graph database, storing data as nodes and relationships and querying it with the Cypher language. It has become the default backend for knowledge graphs, fraud detection, recommendation engines, and, increasingly, GraphRAG systems where LLMs retrieve from graph structure to ground their answers.
Founded in 2007, the company raised a $390M Series F in 2021, billed at the time as the largest funding round in database history, and has raised around $550M in total venture capital. It reports over $200M in ARR and counts 84% of the Fortune 100 as customers. Neo4j added native vector search to the core database in 2023, announced a $100M GenAI investment with an Aura Agent and MCP server in 2025, and agreed to acquire GraphAware in 2026. AuraDB offers a managed cloud with a forever-free tier.
What it can do
- Native property graph storage with the Cypher query language
- Native vector search plus graph algorithms for GenAI and GraphRAG
- Managed AuraDB cloud with a forever-free tier and enterprise SLAs
- MCP server and integrations with Azure AI, Snowflake, and major clouds
Setup
Use AuraDB cloud with a free tier, run Neo4j Desktop locally, or docker run neo4j. Query with Cypher via the browser or official drivers.
Prerequisites
A dataset with meaningful relationships; Cypher familiarity helps.
