Playwright Agent Skills
Microsoft's official agent skills for Playwright — browser automation and test healing via CLI/MCP.
About
Microsoft now ships agent skills directly with Playwright, so coding agents can drive real browsers instead of guessing at the DOM. The skill pack covers the Playwright CLI lane (token-efficient, playwright-cli install --skills), the MCP server lane (@playwright/mcp with accessibility-tree snapshots), and the newer test agents — planner, generator and healer — wired up via npx playwright init-agents. Agents learn the snapshot → act → verify loop, trace analysis and CI integration from Playwright's own docs rather than stale training data.
The honest picture: this is genuinely the best-supported browser-automation skill going, but it's Playwright-shaped — if your stack is Cypress or raw CDP, most of it doesn't transfer. The MCP lane is heavier on tokens than the CLI lane, so cost-conscious setups should steer agents to the CLI. And browser automation remains flaky by nature; the skill reduces guesswork, it doesn't eliminate it.
What it can do
- CLI and MCP lanes for agent-driven browser control
- Accessibility-tree snapshots instead of screenshot guessing
- Test planner, generator and healer agents
- Trace analysis and CI failure workflows
- Cross-browser: Chromium, Firefox, WebKit
Setup
Run npx playwright init-agents --loop=claude (Playwright >= 1.56), or playwright-cli install --skills. For MCP: add @playwright/mcp to your MCP client config.
Prerequisites
Node.js and a Playwright installation. A Chromium/Firefox/WebKit browser binary (npx playwright install).
