Qwen-Image-2.1
7B unified open-weight image model: generation plus editing in one checkpoint.
About
Qwen-Image-2.1 is Alibaba Qwen team's follow-up to the 20B Qwen-Image, compressing text-to-image generation and image editing into a single 7B diffusion transformer checkpoint. One model handles text-to-image, multi-reference editing, local edits, and transparent RGBA output, with day-one support in Diffusers, ComfyUI, and vLLM-Omni. It inherits the family's strength in accurate text rendering, including Chinese.
The 7B figure covers only the diffusion transformer — the pipeline also loads an 8B Qwen3-VL encoder, so VRAM needs are higher than the headline number suggests. Commercial deployment needs a separate license from Qwen (research/eval use is the documented path), and as a 2026 release the ecosystem of fine-tunes is thinner than SDXL's.
What it can do
- Text-to-image generation
- Instruction-based image editing
- Multi-reference editing
- Transparent RGBA output
- Accurate multilingual text rendering
Setup
pip install diffusers and load the Qwen-Image-2.1 checkpoint from Hugging Face, or use it in ComfyUI with the Qwen-Image nodes. Needs a CUDA GPU with 16GB+ VRAM for comfortable use.
Prerequisites
Python 3.10+, PyTorch with CUDA, Hugging Face account for weights.
