Redpanda
Kafka-compatible streaming platform in C++ with no JVM or ZooKeeper.
About
Redpanda is a Kafka API-compatible streaming data platform written in C++, eliminating the JVM and ZooKeeper operational burden of Apache Kafka. Founded in 2019 by Alexander Gallego, it deploys in minutes, claims 10x lower latency and far less hardware than Kafka, and passed the Jepsen distributed-systems correctness test. Customers include major banks, Cisco, Vodafone, and Activision.
In April 2025 Redpanda closed a $100M Series D led by GV at a $1B valuation, with 300% revenue growth in 2024. The round came with a pivot toward AI infrastructure: an Enterprise Agentic AI Platform with Model Context Protocol integration, 300+ connectors to AI and GPU services, and bring-your-own-cloud deployment so sensitive data stays inside the customer perimeter. The thesis is that autonomous agents need real-time, auditable data pipelines, and Redpanda wants to be that data plane.
What it can do
