Amazon SageMaker
AWS's unified platform for data, analytics, and AI development.
About
Amazon SageMaker is AWS's end-to-end machine learning service for building, training, and deploying models. At re:Invent 2024 AWS unveiled the next generation of SageMaker as a unified platform for data, analytics, and AI: SageMaker Unified Studio (GA March 2025) brings data engineering, SQL analytics, ML development, and generative AI app building into one IDE, alongside SageMaker Lakehouse (Apache Iceberg-based) and SageMaker Catalog for governance.
The classic ML service continues as Amazon SageMaker AI, with HyperPod for large-scale training, JumpStart model hub, and MLOps tooling, while Amazon Q Developer provides AI assistance throughout Unified Studio. Limitation: the platform's breadth brings complexity — IAM, VPC, and regional availability setup is non-trivial, and costs span compute, storage, and inference.
What it can do
- Unified Studio for data, analytics, and AI
- Managed training with HyperPod and JumpStart models
- Lakehouse and Catalog for data governance
- MLOps pipelines, model registry, and monitoring
Setup
Enable SageMaker in the AWS console; launch SageMaker Unified Studio and configure IAM roles.
Prerequisites
An AWS account; familiarity with IAM and VPC networking for production setups.
