Understory
Turns a codebase into an interactive, defensible HTML course.
About
A skill that converts a repository into an interactive HTML course: territory-mapped, self-verifying, with fieldwork exercises in the real code and spaced recall.
It is meant for onboarding onto unfamiliar codebases — the reader has to demonstrate understanding, not just skim. Generation takes real effort on large repos, and the course quality depends on the codebase being coherent enough to teach.
What it can do
- Codebase territory mapping
- Interactive HTML course generation
- Fieldwork exercises in the real repo
- Spaced recall
- Self-verifying checkpoints
- Defensible learning outcomes
Setup
- Add the marketplace to Claude Code.
- Install the understory plugin.
- Ask it to build the course from your repository and open the generated HTML.
Prerequisites
A code repository to learn from.

Trust score — 5/10
Scored 5/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: 1 star on the catalog repo, very early; course quality depends on codebase coherence; generation is compute-heavy on large repos. License: MIT.
