Baichuan-13B-Chat is the chat-tuned 13-billion-parameter model from Baichuan Intelligent Technology's first generation, released in mid-2023. A bilingual Chinese-English model, it was among the earliest credible open alternatives in the Chinese LLM wave and saw wide adoption in local deployment tooling.

The weights ship under the Community License for Baichuan-13B Model: community use is open, but commercial use requires written authorization from Baichuan. This differs from the later Baichuan2 community license, so verify the exact terms for the v1 model before any commercial plans.
