Fanar-2-27B-Instruct

Fanar-2-27B-Instruct is the 27-billion-parameter instruction-tuned core of Fanar 2.0, the second generation of Qatar's sovereign Arabic-centric generative AI platform, developed entirely at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), Hamad Bin Khalifa University. It is built by continual pre-training on a Gemma-3-27B backbone with roughly 120 to 166 billion curated Arabic and English tokens, and was announced alongside an arXiv technical report in March 2026.

The model supports Modern Standard Arabic plus Gulf, Levantine, and Egyptian dialects, and introduces native Arabic reasoning traces, a selective thinking mode, tool calling, and stronger hallucination mitigation. QCRI positions the whole Fanar 2.0 stack, including the FanarGuard 4B moderation filter and Oryx vision models, as a sovereign alternative to externally hosted AI.

Because it inherits the Gemma 3 lineage, users should confirm the exact weight license on the model card before commercial deployment; the vendor's technical report is the primary specification.
