FLUX.1
Open text-to-image model from the Stable Diffusion team that topped generation benchmarks.
About
FLUX.1 is a 12-billion-parameter text-to-image model launched on August 1, 2024 by Black Forest Labs, the startup founded by the researchers who created Stable Diffusion. Built on a rectified flow transformer architecture, it was reported at launch to outperform the leading image models of the time on prompt adherence, visual quality, and output diversity.
It ships in three variants: FLUX.1 [pro], the flagship available through API for commercial use; FLUX.1 [dev], an open-weight guidance-distilled variant for non-commercial use; and FLUX.1 [schnell], a fast distilled model released under Apache 2.0 that can generate an image in a single step. The schnell variant is the genuinely open one — dev carries a non-commercial restriction and pro is closed.
FLUX.1 is notable for strong text rendering inside images and natural-language prompt understanding. The [dev] and [schnell] weights run well on consumer GPUs, making it one of the most widely self-hosted image models since Stable Diffusion itself.
