About

Released June 26, 2025, FLUX.1 Kontext [dev] is Black Forest Labs' 12B-parameter open-weight image editing model distilled from the proprietary Kontext [pro]. Instead of one-shot generation, it treats images as context: feed it a picture plus a text instruction and it performs iterative edits — local changes, style transfer, text edits, multi-step refinement — while preserving character consistency and composition across turns. On the 1,026-pair KontextBench it led open models and trailed only GPT-4o and BFL's own private stacks. It plugs into ComfyUI, Diffusers, Replicate, and FAL, with TensorRT-optimized variants for RTX cards.\n\nThe honest caveats: 'open-weight' here means downloadable, not open-source — the FLUX Non-Commercial License bars commercial use without a paid license from BFL's self-serve portal. Text rendering, while strong, still trails GPT Image-class models on dense typography, and 12B of DiT wants a beefy GPU (24GB+ is comfortable) for local runs.
