Gemini 2.5 Flash Image
Native multimodal image generation and editing model, known as Nano Banana.
About
Gemini 2.5 Flash Image is Google's native multimodal image model: it takes text and images as input and returns generated or edited images in the same conversational workflow. It first appeared anonymously on the LMArena leaderboard under the cryptic name nano banana, sweeping the rankings before Google confirmed the identity on August 26, 2025. Its strength is character and object consistency across multi-turn edits, plain-language photo editing, and rapid 1K-resolution ideation.
It is now the legacy member of the Nano Banana family. Google recommends newer tiers (Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro) for 2K-4K output and stronger text rendering, but the 2.5 Flash Image model remains the reference point for fast conversational image editing and is served through the Gemini API, AI Studio, and the Gemini app. All generated images carry SynthID watermarking.
