Gemma-2-9B-IT is the instruction-tuned version of Gemma 2 9B, released by Google on June 27, 2024 as part of the second Gemma generation. Built from the same research and technology behind the Gemini models, it is a text-to-text decoder-only model aimed at question answering, summarization, and reasoning tasks.
The model ships with open weights under Google's custom Gemma Terms of Use, which permit commercial use with some restrictions, so it is not under a standard OSI license. It is widely served through inference providers and runs well on a single high-end GPU.
