About

GPT-Live-1 mini, launched July 8, 2026 alongside the full GPT-Live-1, is OpenAI's smaller full-duplex voice model. It powers ChatGPT Voice for Free-tier users while paid users get the full GPT-Live-1, and both replaced the older Advanced Voice Mode and its Instant/Medium/High intelligence levels.

Like its bigger sibling it listens and speaks simultaneously rather than taking turns, with web search, memory, and visual widgets across chatgpt.com and the iOS and Android apps. OpenAI simplified the daily usage limits by plan at launch and later let Voice draw on GPT-5.6 or GPT-6 Astra for harder questions when needed.

The mini is the entry point to OpenAI's Live voice stack: the same conversational architecture at a smaller scale, aimed at everyday voice chat rather than production agent workloads.

Release facts (July 8, 2026; OpenAI; serves ChatGPT Free users; full-duplex architecture; replaced Advanced Voice Mode and its intelligence tiers) corroborated across Unite.AI and OpenAI's release notes. Docked for: (1) no standalone API or separate pricing, so its standalone capabilities are thinly documented; (2) no independent benchmark scores for the mini specifically; (3) proprietary with no weights.
