About
Jais-13B-Chat is the instruction-tuned conversational variant of Jais-13B, released on August 30, 2023 by Inception (now Core42, a G42 company) together with MBZUAI and Cerebras Systems. It was the chat counterpart to the first public Jais release, a 13B decoder-only Transformer trained from scratch on 395 billion Arabic and English tokens.
Named after Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest peak, the model was built to give the world's 400 million Arabic speakers a high-quality open model in their own language. Both the foundation and chat checkpoints were published under Apache 2.0, and the Hugging Face repository remains public subject to access conditions.
