About
Jurassic-2 was announced by Israeli startup AI21 Labs in March 2023 as the successor to Jurassic-1, in Ultra, Mid, and Light sizes. It updated training data, accelerated generation by up to 30%, and added zero-shot instruction following plus multilingual support across Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Dutch.
The models were served through AI21 Studio and its NLP-as-a-service platform, alongside task-specific APIs for summarization, paraphrasing, and grammatical error correction, and were also available via Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker. Jurassic-2 was later eclipsed by AI21's Jamba line and the company's 2025-2026 pivot toward enterprise orchestration software, so treat it as a historical entry in the foundation-model era.
