NVILA-8B
Efficient multi-image vision-language model for cloud and edge.
About
NVILA-8B is NVIDIA's efficient vision-language model built on the VILA recipe: interleaved image-text pretraining that enables multi-image reasoning, in-context learning, and visual chain-of-thought, deployable from data centers down to Jetson Orin and laptops via quantization. The 8B size sits in a sweet spot for serving VLMs without flagship-GPU budgets.
The weights carry a non-commercial restriction on the model card, so this is a research and prototyping pick rather than a production one — verify the exact terms before any commercial use. Newer open VLMs have also moved the accuracy bar since its late-2024 release.

Use cases
Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: NVIDIA Efficient-Large-Model org, late 2024; training recipe (NVILA-Lite scripts) and eval harness public; Weights carry a non-commercial restriction — research and prototyping pick, not production; Overtaken on accuracy by newer open VLMs since release; Confirm exact license terms on the model card; card text references CC-BY-NC family terms. License: Non-commercial weights license (CC-BY-NC family per model card) — verify exact terms; not for commercial use.
