About

Qwen3 is Alibaba's open-weight language model family, released at the end of April 2025. It spans six dense models (0.6B to 32B parameters) and two mixture-of-experts models, with the 235B-parameter Qwen3-235B-A22B as the flagship. All models are Apache 2.0 licensed — genuinely open — and were pretrained on 36 trillion tokens covering 119 languages.

Its headline feature is hybrid thinking: each model can switch between a fast non-thinking mode for simple queries and a deliberate thinking mode for complex reasoning, letting users trade latency against depth on demand. This made Qwen3 one of the first open families to bake dual-mode reasoning into every size.

The family proved extremely popular with the open-source community, spawning thousands of fine-tunes and quantizations within weeks. It remains one of the strongest open-weight options for coding, math, and multilingual work.
