About
Sahabat-AI is an open-source large language model ecosystem built specifically for Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesia's regional languages. It was announced at Indosat's Indonesia AI Day in November 2024 by GoTo Group and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, with training support from AI Singapore and Tech Mahindra using NVIDIA's full-stack AI platform, and is positioned as a national asset for Indonesia's digital sovereignty.
The first phase launched with 8-billion and 9-billion parameter models. On June 2, 2025, the partners released a 70-billion parameter model with stronger reasoning plus a multilingual chat service covering Bahasa Indonesia, Javanese, Sundanese, Balinese, and Bataknese, available via sahabat-ai.com and inside the GoPay app. Training and serving run on GPU Merdeka, Lintasarta's sovereign AI cloud, so data stays in Indonesia. GoTo uses the models in its AI voice assistant Dira for ride booking, food delivery, and payments.
