About
Voyage 3 was launched in October 2024 by Voyage AI alongside voyage-3-lite, as general-purpose embedding models tuned for retrieval-augmented generation. Voyage-3 claimed 7.55% better retrieval accuracy than OpenAI's large embedding model at less than half the cost, with a 32K-token context window, four times OpenAI's offering at the time.
The company, founded by Stanford researchers in 2023, raised $28M with backing from Databricks and Snowflake, and was acquired by MongoDB in February 2025 to power Atlas vector search. Voyage also ships domain-specialized embeddings for code, finance, and law. Access is API-only.
