About
Falcon-40B-Instruct is the instruction-tuned version of the Technology Innovation Institute's Falcon 40B, a 40-billion-parameter decoder-only model trained on 1 trillion tokens of the RefinedWeb dataset. The base model was released in May 2023 under Apache 2.0 and briefly ranked first on the Hugging Face Open LLM Leaderboard, a breakthrough for permissively licensed open models.
The instruct variant adds conversational and instruction-following behavior on top of the strong base, making it usable for chat, summarization, and general assistant tasks. With 2048-token context and multi-query attention, it is a dated but historically important open-weight checkpoint from the UAE's sovereign AI program.
