About
Typhoon is SCB 10X's (Siam Commercial Bank's venture arm) family of Thai-first open language models. Typhoon 2 (paper: Dec 2024) spans text and multimodal Thai LLMs; the current v2.5 flagship (typhoon-v2.5-30b-a3b-instruct) is a 30B mixture-of-experts with 128K context. The family also covers Thai OCR and real-time Thai ASR (including Isan dialect), all behind a free OpenAI-compatible research API at opentyphoon.ai.
It is genuinely open — weights on Hugging Face, runnable locally via Ollama/LM Studio — and the free hosted API (5 req/s, 200 req/min) makes it the easiest way to experiment with Thai AI. Regional dialects like Isan are a differentiator foreign models skip entirely.
Honest limits: the free API is a beta research showcase (as-is, usage data collected, no SLA; production users are pointed to paid third-party hosts). Thai-first means English/general reasoning trails larger multilingual models, and the ecosystem is Thailand-centric.
